Adjustable Timimg Gear

Adjustable camshaft drive for YAMAHA SR500 TT500 XT500 Installation

Item No.: K30543  k30543.gif

Attention !! Changing the timing requires a good knowledge of engines and should only be performed by experienced repairmen!

Functionality:
The angle between the index bores and the outer markings are precisely matched with each other so that the camshaft is at exactly 1 ° relative to the drive wheel when the timing chain is offset by four teeth and the index pin by one hole (corresponding to an adjustment of 2 ° based on the crankshaft).

Yamaha original setting:
Fit timing chain so that:
- Flywheel mark on OT,
- "0" mark aligned to the camshaft drive wheel to the cylinder head cover sealing surface
  (As described in Repair Instructions)
- Index pin in hole "0"

Examples:

Set camshaft to 1 ° earlier (equivalent to 2 ° on the crankshaft):
Fit timing chain so that:
- Flywheel mark on OT,
- Mark "1" on the camshaft drive wheel aligned to the cylinder head cover sealing surface
  (As described in Repair Instructions)
- Index pin in hole "1"

Set camshaft to 2 ° later (equivalent to 4 ° to the crankshaft):
Fit timing chain so that:
- Flywheel mark on OT,
- Mark "-2" on camshaft drive wheel aligned to the cylinder head cover sealing surface
  (as described in repair instructions),
- Index pin in hole "-2"

Maximum possible adjustment is 4 ° (= 8 ° on crankshaft) earlier (both labels to "4"), or 3 ° (= 6 ° on crankshaft) later (both labels to "-3")
